As a doula I support women and their partners during pregnancy, birth and the first few weeks of parenthood, by giving reassurance, assistance and information.

During pregnancy I will get to know you and your partner through one on one meetings where I’m able to talk to you both about any questions or concerns you may have. I’m able to give you information so that you can make the best choices to achieve the birth experience you want.

I will be there throughout your entire birth, by your side, focused solely on you and your partner. There to encourage you, remain objective and to help your partner feel more confident on how to support you. I can provide information if you have questions regarding procedures during labour and  help you communicate most effectively with your medical caregivers.

After your baby is born I can assist you to establish breastfeeding and continue to assist you through the first few weeks adjusting to life with a newborn baby.

Research has shown that having a doula at your birth can make a real difference. The risk of emergency cesarean is reduced as well as reducing the chances of other interventions occurring like assisted delivery. How you interact with your baby, your satisfaction with your birth and the experience for your partner are all rated significantly higher with woman who have had a doula.

As a doula there are a few things that I do not do. I am not a midwife so I cannot provide any medical care for you, such as doing examination or checking the baby’s heart rate. My care fits together but does not replace the care of your midwives and doctor. I will not make decisions or speak for you. This is your birth and your baby. I can support you through your decisions by providing you with information and explanations, but it is you who decides what best for you.
